Amble – Holmsley

Take A35 towards Lyndhurst passing the Retreat on your right.   Ignore Holmsley Camp Site turnoff on your left. Go past the New Milton/Wooton/Bashley turn off on your right and then turn immediately turn left onto an unmarked Lane. Follow this Lane, go over a Ford and then a Cattle Grid and Holmsley CP is immediately on your right.  CAR PARK IS SMALL, SO PLEASE SHARE TRANSPORT WHERE POSSIBLE OR DOUBLE PARK.

We will be walking along the top of Holmsley Ridge, past the old gravel pit/nature reserve with extensive views over to Turf Hill, Dur Hill and Thorney Hill to Whitten Ponds for a coffee break on the bank of the main pond. (Please bring something to sit on the grass).  We then follow the old railway track for about 3/4 of a mile and then turn right up a fairly steep slope where we will rest for a while in a shady forest area.  We then proceed through lovely New Forest woodland back to the C/P.
