Ramblers – Dorsetshire Gap, Ansty

Starting at 10.30am so leave at least 90 minutes to allow for traffic.

Meet – Fox Inn CP, Ansty. Take A31 past Wimborne towards Dorchester & head for Bere Regis. At roundabout byShell garage, turn L towards Bere. After few 100 yds, turn R. Then, at roundabout turn R into Bere Regis. Continuethrough Bere Regis, then under duel carriageway to Milborne St. Andrew. Go straight over cross roads at Milborne St Andrew to meet the A354 opposite the post office. Turn L, thenimmediately R, (signposted ‘Hilton’ & ‘The Fox Inn.’) Follow the ‘knife and fork’ signs and after just over a mileand a half or so, turn L (signposted ‘Ansty 3 miles’ & ‘knife and fork’ signs.) Continue straight along road for approx 3 miles where you will see a sign on LHS in hedge for The Fox Inn. Take Lturn at cross roads (signposted ‘Dorchester’ & ‘Melcombe Bingham.’) Fox Inn is about 3-400 yds on LHS.

Stunning countryside in deepest Dorset. Gradual ascent to top of the Dorsetshire Gap. Superb views over BlackmoorVale. Descending to site of a medieval village and to picturesque ancient church at Bingham’s Melcombe. Lunch available in pub.
