Drama and Play Reading
We meet every week from September to May. We read a wide selection of plays, explore different forms of drama and theatre by ‘walking through’ each play. We always read from books and do not perform to an audience, although occasionally we perform poems as a Speech Choir. Over the past year our plays have ranged from the arena theatre of Bertolt Brecht to French farce and ‘Lark Rise to Candleford’. From Dylan Thomas voice play ‘Under Milk Wood’ to ‘Blithe Spirit’ by Coward.

Literary Group
We meet for a general discussion about literary topics with one or two choice readings from the authors and poets that currently interest us.
For instance we have looked at Keats’ Great Year of 1819 and marked Iris Murdoch’s Centenary. John Ruskin and Charles Kingsley also have significant anniversaries this year, and because of ‘The Durrells’ television series with have read some Lawrence Durrell. There was a memorable session with Karen Blixen’s ‘Out of Africa’ since one of the readers had visited the farm.
We have just listened to a BBC radio feature about the young tank commander and poet, Keith Douglas, killed shortly after taking part in the D-Day crossing.
For general interest we try to track down some of the literary quotes in the annual competition hide and seek – without searching the internet.

Quilters
We, the Tuesday Quilters, are a friendly group of ladies who mostly work on their own projects. At times we also make individual and communal quilts for the Project Linus UK Charity, which provides these home-made quilts for sick children in hospital as a comfort and to keep them thereafter. We may have a workshop by one of our members where we learn new techniques to apply to our works. We meet weekly every Tuesday morning from 9.30am-noon.
New members welcome!
